Deadline Set for Texas Primary Candidacy Filings

E B Germany Texas state Democratic chairman announced candidates for U S Senate or state offices must file by midnight June 1. filings require office sought, certification request to the Democratic executive committee, candidate name age occupation residence and mailing address, sworn affidavit and a $100 money order or certified check. Traffic Deaths Showing Decline

The National Safety Council reports April traffic deaths down 14 percent from a year earlier and 7 percent for January through April 1942. April fatalities totaled 2,280, lifting the four month toll to 10,160 vs 10,890 in 1941. Mileage data are conflicting, delaying attribution of the decline to reduced travel or conservation. A March federal travel report shows a slight rise from March 1941, while 13 states report an overall 5 percent drop.

Traffic arrests rise in Texas first quarter survey shows speeders on rationed tires

Texas public safety officials report a sharp rise in traffic violations in the first quarter with speeders comprising about 90 percent of those arrested in one district. Highway patrol warned or arrested 98,978 drivers, up from 84,948 a year earlier. Texas led the nation in reducing road deaths with a 45 percent drop in April and a 22 percent first quarter decline.

Corpus Christi May 30 Toto a small brown monkey escaped from a municipal cage for a day of freedom. The city paid the bill. Beasia Scott reported the burglary after returning home to find the place in disorder. Toto slept in a corner and caused various property damages before the city and zoo keeper settled for $20.85.

U P reports United States crude oil output increased by 288 400 barrels per day to 3 892 375. Texas added 344 700 barrels daily, lifting weekly gains above federal recommendations. Several states show mixed changes with several declines and a few increases.
