Record-breaking high speed rail test tests Pennsy cars
The U S Department of Transportation supervised two 21 mile trials on Pennsylvania Railroad track from Trenton to New Brunswick as a precursor to a faster New York to Washington service. The test train reached 156 mph on the first run and 145.8 mph on the second, with a max target of 110 mph in regular service. Engineers said the run proved the near term feasibility of high speed rail without seat belts.
