A survey by 18 county agents estimates total area crop income at 466 million dollars for 1952. Cotton would bring about 343 million from 3.8 million acres, with grain sorghum around 56 million on 1.6 million acres and other crops about 67.2 million on 987 thousand acres.
French sources say Paris will likely sign the West German peace treaty with the United States and Britain if its demands for a guaranteed security pledge against possible German aggression are met. Contracts totaling more than 1 million dollars were awarded to erect and equip a new Southwestern Bell Telephone building on Main Street at Ave M. W G McMillan & Son of Lubbock, John Pickett Electric of Lubbock, Sansom Company of Lubbock, Beals Plumbing and Heating of Fort Worth, and Western Electric supplied equipment. In Plainview outskirts a semi trailer and car collide. Four men suffer minor injuries including cuts bruises and lacerations. Johnson the car driver and Beges the truck driver were uninjured. Police say the truck overturned twice and an investigation continues.

More than 200 inmates rioted for six hours at the Idaho state prison in Boise on May 24, setting fire to the recreation hall. Officers used tear gas and clubs to break the riot, with armed guards surrounding the walls and threatening to shoot to kill if escapes occurred. About 100 prisoners in another wing watched while the uprising was quelled without bloodshed.
A late return tabulation shows 2,739 workers favor accepting the union negotiated settlement and 2,086 against it, as nationwide voting among about 30,000 Western Union telegraph workers continued. The Associated Press tally indicated a trend toward acceptance.

Two highway crashes Saturday killed a Slaton woman and a three year old boy near Floydada as area traffic deaths climbed to 27. Mrs. P. G. Her husband, briefly hospitalized with cuts, survived. Teddy Carter Smith, 3, died after being thrown from a farm truck when it overturned on a dirt road near his home. Flood waters from the Bosque River drained into Lake Waco after torrential rains swelled the river. Stephenville reported two drownings as residents were evacuated and hundreds displaced. City officials expected the lake to absorb the crest without further damage downstream.
