Military sources report heavy fighting at the Hue defenses around the My Chanh village base on the river bank. Seven tanks spearhead the assault as the action may mark the opening round of clashes timed to align with President Nixon’s Moscow summit conference.
President Nixon, after a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky at Klestheim Palace, heads to Moscow for a week of high stakes arms talks. Kissinger notes remaining technical issues on a U S Soviet nuclear pact while both sides push for in principle limits. Nixon aims to sign in Moscow with Kremlin observers watching closely.
The Summer test focuses on whether bike routes built last September are used. City officials, the Adult Bicycle Club, and the Tech Bicycle Conspiracy studied feasibility, approved the plan, and installed 475 signs along a 34 mile corridor from 70th Street to Municipal Drive.
A quiet Sunday across the South Plains gave way to dramatic thunderhead displays as residents tracked rainfall. Measured amounts were scant with .25 inch across some areas and .03 inch at Lubbock's National Weather Service Forecast Office, with only a few drops in the evening around 8 p.m. No major damage reported.
