Memphis Civil Rights Panel calls for DOJ probe after police misconduct claims
The Tennessee Advisory Committee to the U S Civil Rights Commission urged a Justice Department investigation into alleged Memphis police brutality during the garbage strike and post King assassination unrest. Acting chair Henry C Forgy Jr said a full, multi-authority inquiry is warranted as hearings highlighted distrust of the police and numerous reports of abuse, illegal searches, and wrongful detentions.
