Arizona Artist Burns Works To Protest Inheritance Tax
Arizona artist Ted De Grazia burned over 100 paintings in a self described protest against inheritance taxes. He led about 20 friends on a six hour horseback ride into the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix to cast the works into a fire at Angel Cliff. The 67 year old millionaire said taxes could reach 70 percent of assessed value after his death and heirs could not afford to inherit the art. A Scottsdale dealer estimated the burned works were worth more than one million dollars.
