Car-Train Fatality Near Roaring Springs Claims 42 Year Old Man
Robert Clifton Haynes of Memphis Texas died after his 1958 car collided with a Quanah Acme and Pacific freight train on State Hwy 70 near Roaring Springs. He was pronounced dead at Stanley Hospital in Matador shortly after admission. The crash left the vehicle’s engine detached and the body found 10 feet from the car with a leg under the motor. E J Jones, engineer of the 67 car train, said he sounded the whistle a quarter mile before impact. The scene lay on an unobstructed grade on the east edge of town. Sheriff J D Spray noted skid marks indicating braking before the collision. It was the area’s third traffic fatality of the year and third in Motley County. Haynes’ body was sent to Secrest Funeral Home in Matador.

Florence Adland, 55, mother of Beverly Aadland and former ward of Errol Flynn, died Monday at General Hospital after internal bleeding and cirrhosis treatment. Beverly had visited her mother on Mother’s Day but was not with her at death.
