Teamsters press wage demands in trucking talks
Washington UPI The Teamsters Union opened contract talks with the trucking industry seeking a wage and fringe benefit package far above Nixon's 5.5 percent guideline. They demand a 1.30 per hour rise for local cartage drivers and a three cent per mile increase for over the road drivers to 15.5 cents, plus an unlimited cost of living escalator and higher stage benefits for about 400,000 members of Trucking Employers Inc.
