British psychiatrist Dr Joshua Bierer declares after his U S lecture tour that American men have ceded control to their wives. He says the handover reflects a competitive society that breeds tension and insecurity, after observing from Phoenix to New York. He adds his remarks sparked strong reactions nationwide.
Senator Thomas J. Dodd sues columnists Drew Pearson and Jack Anderson for conspiracy and libel in U S District Court alleging they diverted funds and did favors for a Chicago public relations man Julius Klein. The action supports Senate ethics probes into misconduct claims and seeks damages of five million dollars.
On Friday the stock market plunged then surged in a last hour rally. The Dow rose 3.06 points to 902.82 as General Motors led a broad recovery after announcing resumed plant operations. Volume reached 13.1 million shares, the largest since 1962, with 872 stocks down and 377 up. A separate note reports Indonesia’s Sukarno declaring the eastern Java volcanic eruption a national disaster with over 100 deaths.

Precinct changes and party machinery still loom as Republicans vote mainly to attend precinct gatherings.
Supporters of Gov. Connally and Sen. Yarborough clash as precinct delegates vote to shape county conventions. In the northern South Plains, Sens. Andy Rogers and Jack Hightower face a new district with a Vernon base and Wichita Falls influence. a runoff is expected though James R. Ray hopes to upset the balance.
The Associated Press reports Texas Democrats vote today in two primaries with contests for U S House seats and party leadership at stake. Precinct conventions decide leaders for two years, while Governor Connally faces rival Ralph Yarborough and others as reforms and unpledged battles unfold.
George Pepperdine College president Norvel Young said the $1 million gift contingent on an honorary degree for radio commentator Dan Smoot was rejected. He cited the academic process and noted Pepperdine awards several honorary degrees yearly. Lewis, a Dallas hardware maker and supporter, died at 62 and left the bequest in his will.
