Plan to widen commercial uses on 50th Street faces zoning clash

Lubbock realtors pushing for unrestricted commercial use along the south 50th Street corridor clashed with planners and residents at a Tuesday hearing. They favored strip zoning with front yard and sign limits, opposing a 25 foot street setback and sign curbs while backing parking in front and eventual full-strip zoning. About 100 people, mostly real estate interests, attended as Ray Chapman urged a vote on zoning and defended the board’s work.
