High Point High School shooting ends in student death

In High Point North Carolina a 16-year-old student killed classmate David Lee Walker at High Point Central High School during lunch. Gerald Locklear was arrested nearby after the assault and found with a .38 caliber revolver. Police say there was prior conflict and Locklear had written an essay about how he would kill Walker.

Lach Held for Jury in Tech Slaying Case

Benjamin Lach, charged with murdering a Texas Tech cleaning woman, was bound over to the grand jury after an examining trial where a surprise alibi witness testified they were together on December 4 the night of the slaying. The witness Joan Dominick a Tech freshman said they drank coffee and talked at her apartment after meeting at the Student Union. The Polish-born Lach came to Tech in September after graduating from Suffolk University in Massachusetts.

Mekong Delta action tides up Saigon offensive

The Associated Press reports U S and South Vietnamese troops pressed the Saigon offensive as 243 Viet Cong were killed and 57 Americans and 71 South Vietnamese died or were wounded. In the Mekong Delta, U S air power destroyed 245 sampans in three days amid enemy moves toward Saigon. The fighting centered near Trang Bang on Route 1 as Allied casualties were light in the Saigon fights but mounting overall.

Lost Fort Leonard Wood soldiers found in cavern

Three soldiers from Fort Leonard Wood, reported missing after entering a cave north of Waynesville, were found Monday night by searchers. They had been missing since Sunday, were hungry and a bit exposed, but in good health and taken to the post hospital for care. They waited for rescue and prayed during their ordeal.
