A five year old boy Benji Michael Williams died after being struck by a car driven by Mrs Bob Painter of Tulsa about 11:30 a.m. Saturday in north Plainview. Justice of the Peace J C Lewis pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigating officer Maxie Scott said the child darted into the street from behind another car. Services are pending at Wood Dunning Funeral Home. Survivors include his parents Olivia Thomas of Plainview and Mrs L C Hall of Caldwell, and his paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs D Williams of Petersburg.
Utah officials insist a mist from a secret Army test area killed 6 400 sheep 30 miles from Skull Valley on March 13. The Army will extend its inquiry as medical tests point to the tests with wind factors cited by Dr D A Osguthorpe who says no people were harmed and Gov Rampton seeks reimbursement of about 300 000 dollars for ranchers.
Viet Cong raiders attacked the Pleiku government radio station under mortar fire but were repelled by allied defenders before reaching the facility. In the broader area, U.S. B 52s bombed targets in North Vietnam and the DMZ region, while allied forces found weapons and supplies near Saigon.
The report cites General Creighton Abrams as a leading candidate for the top U S military role in Vietnam. Abrams, 53, formerly vice chief of the Army, would become deputy commander in chief with a background from World War II and the Korean War.
The 1968 South Plains Junior Livestock Show closed with 356 prize animals sold. Grand champion steer, bought for 2.50 a pound, went to Rod Bowling of Sudan for 2 275. The reserve champion steer sold for 1.50 a pound to a West Texas cattle interest group. Lamb calf Scooter netted 1 441.50 as Joyce Thomas cried. Buyers included multiple Lubbock firms and ranches.
