Sundown Students Injured In Homemade Rocket Explosion
Two Sundown High School youths were hospitalized after a homemade rocket exploded at the Love home near Sundown on Friday evening. James Love, 18, lost his right hand above the wrist. Joe Don Johnson, 16, suffered loss of part of his right hand and damage to both hands. Doctors described shrapnel injuries and noted the device was a 1 inch pipe with potassium nitrate sugar carbon and sulfur. Both boys were reported in good condition at Phillips-Dupree hospital in Levelland.
