Israelis fire across ceasefire line in Jordan drive

Reported 15,000 Israeli troops with tanks and jets crossed the cease-fire line into Jordan in a punitive raid. Casualty figures varied. Jordan and the U N considered truce observers. The United States planned to resume arms shipments to Jordan amid caution over the clash. Israeli Chief of Staff Gen Bar-Lev said El-Fatah bases destroyed and 150 fighters killed. Israel reported 15 killed, 70 wounded, and losses including vehicles and a downed plane.

An 18 year old Sudan 4 H member Rod Bowling captured the grand champion Hereford steer at the 35th South Plains Junior Livestock Show. The victory came as judge Dr Miles McKee of Kansas State University selected Joker as best of 199 calves. Joyce Thomas won reserve grand with a 1030 pound Hereford. Judging continues this morning with pork and other breed classes.

Red Jets Buzz West Berlin Near Tempelhof

Four swept wing Communist jets flew low over West Berlin approaching Tempelhof airport within half a mile. Police said the jets appeared Soviet made MIGs and that Western allies lodged an oral protest to Soviet authorities. It was unclear if the planes belonged to the Soviet Union or East Germany.
