The 1963 South Plains Junior Fat Stock Show capped its 30th year with Jerry Wicuulre of Seminole 4H selling a 962 pound Angus grand champion for 924 dollars on a pay weight basis including a four percent shrink. The sale at Panhandle South Plains Fair grounds featured about 44 premium animals and included a record lamb bid of five dollars per pound. Jimmy Curry of Hale Center sold a Hereford reserve champion steer for 469.80 on a pay weight basis, while all breed grand champion barrow brought 3.75 per pound and reserve grand champion hog 1.60. Crash Kills City Man in Crosby County
A 52 year old Lubbock man John Virgil Kinsey was killed when a pickup driven by Clinton Ray Thrasher left FM Road 193 near Cone and overturned after a tire blew out. Kinsey died at Crosby County Hospital at 645 pm. Thrasher had minor injuries and was not treated. Kinsey’s funeral plans were pending.
