Burglar Found Sleeping After Break-In

A burglar was found asleep on a South Sute apartment sofa after allegedly trying to carry out a theft. Tony Talbert, 19, was arrested and charged with burglary after Rosemary Kinend returned home to discover stereo, a portable TV and other belongings piled by the front door and the suspect snoring inside.

Plainview Man Named Deputy Comptroller

Ralph Wayne of Plainview was appointed deputy comptroller and chief clerk by Texas Comptroller Bob Bullock. Wayne, 44, will replace Randall B. Wood who resigns to enter private law practice and will stay on staff through April 30. Wayne owns radio stations in Odessa Plainview Brownwood and Marshall. He previously served eight years in the Texas House and was a close associate of former Lt Gov Ben Barnes.

Ford Sets Session With Fellowship in New York

Former President Gerald R. Ford will visit New York March 22-23 for a two day session with Eisenhower Fellows and address the 1977 orientation. He will meet NBC executives on March 24 to discuss appearances on NBC news programs next year.

State blocks Image Inc youth counseling plan funding

Gov. Dolph Briscoe’s Budget and Planning Office recommended denying Image Inc. federal funding for a youth counseling recreation and job training program in four Texas sites. County officials and SPAG opposed duplicating existing programs, calling the plan a boondoggle and waste of tax dollars. John Shaw praised the decision as a taxpayer victory, noting doubts about federal funding.

Woman Officer Seeks Transfer to Albuquerque
