Army ad campaign sparks interservice recruiting fears
A private Marine Corps memo details Army plans for a 10.6 million prime time advertising push beginning March 1 on major networks and radio. Navy and Marines worry about losing free time and that paid ads may hurt their recruiting. Office of the Secretary of Defense halted further paid time while evaluating the program. Paul Wollstadt chaired the February 20 meeting where the Army plans and potential impact were discussed.

Army Ad Campaign Spurs Multiservice Debate and Budgets
The Army's large scale paid advertising for enlistment drew concern across services about time on air, potential effects on free air time, and possible enlistment shifts. A three month commitment was set, with reviews planned after the Army program. Some stations rejected paid ads, and bonuses were debated as part of a shift toward an all volunteer force.
