West Lubbock Planning Board Deadlocks Over Shopping Center Site

The City Planning and Zoning Commission in West Lubbock deadlocked after an hour of deliberations on where to place a new shopping center. They recommended annexed land between 34th Street and Clovis Road be zoned R-1 but split 4-4 on sites at 4th Street and Slide Road or 10th Street and Slide Road. The panel rejected a commercial zone at 82nd Street and Avenue, while approving a similar request at Brownfield Road and Salem Avenue. Bob Burr cited 4,400 acres of new annexed land capable of housing 55,000 to 66,600 people once developed, with neighborhood centers and larger community centers proposed to serve growing west Lubbock.
