A vigorous Pacific cold front nears Texas bringing gusty winds and a 40 percent chance of light rain or showers across the Panhandle and South Plains with possible snow in higher elevations. The system, entering tonight, could drop temperatures to the low 40s with a high near the 50s.
Lubbock edges Amarillo for aviation hub status as 1969 could bring a 200,000 passenger year. Johnson and Hanes see a regional facility future while Amarillo’s lead declines and Midland remains a distant third. January 1969 marks a Lubbock win at the ticket counters.
Three confirmed spinal meningitis cases were reported in Lubbock by health officials and Justice of the Peace Wayne LeCroy.
