South Plains remains icy as an extensive icicle extends from New Mexico into Texas. Forecasters warn of continued freezing rain sleet and snow with a low around 20 degrees. February records tumbled with 13 year cold highs last month and roads turn hazardous after 53 minor crashes by 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Senate clashes over civil rights legislation as Sen. James Eastland denounces Supreme Court rulings as crap and tripe during an all night session. Rescue workers worked Tuesday night near Bakersfield to free passengers trapped in the telescoped first two cars of the San Francisco streamliner bound for Chicago after it collided with an oil truck. The Air Force plan to fire an Atlas missile nearly 9000 miles from Cape Canaveral into the southern Indian Ocean was canceled Tuesday. State Liquor Control Board officers raided a southwest Lubbock residence seizing about 3172 bottles of beer and 1825 bottles of whisky gin and wine worth an estimated 5000 dollars. Clyde Barr 39 and Kenneth Mack Seal 28 pleaded guilty to illegal possession and illegal transportation. Barr was fined 1000 dollars and Seal 900 dollars plus 20 days in jail.
