A masked thief robbed the Seven Eleven Food Store No 50 at Road shortly after 4:45 a.m. Sunday after a caller intimidated clerk Diane Altum. The thief demanded the cash from registers and the safe, forcing Altum to place a sack on the counter and then flee with the money before leaving after warning of a second killer.
Texas legislators outline a $1 billion price tag for required expenditures in the coming biennium. The fiscal plan includes a $600 million tax package, with additional $285 million from revenue bonds and about $100 million in tuition increases not part of the package.
Storms from the West bring gusty winds up to 37 mph across Northwest Texas with scattered rain. Lubbock records 60 after an 82 degree morning. South Plains to see 30 mph winds and more dust. Forecasts predict highs near 60s, lows in 50s, with Wednesday to Friday rain and mixed precipitation in Northwest Texas.

A Mc Lennan County sheriff's deputy died and another was injured during an escape attempt at the county jail in Waco. Officials say eight prisoners were involved in the incident.
Bobby Mayo, 39, a jailer, died after being struck by a gunshot while aiding fellow jailer Al Blackwell during an escape attempt. Officers say Mayo died instantly and a two shot Derringer taken from Blackwell may have been used.
Cynthia Fletcher reports two intrusions at 3013 22nd St and 2112 Clovis Road with items stolen including a hand carved Chinese ivory chess set valued at 6000 dollars a television and a radio totaling 135 dollars. A paper carrier recounts a 15 dollar theft from his route.

South Vietnamese military sources report up to 16 000 troops being ferried from other regions to northern staging areas and into Laos by C130s and helicopters. The Laotian offensive began February 8 with seven North Vietnamese regiments facing South Vietnamese forces at hill positions near Lao Bao.
The reward fund for information leading to the arrest and conviction of A J Prim who was shot in East Lubbock last July has risen to 5500 dollars. Roy F Prim of Los Angeles boosted the reward from 2000 dollars and deposited the funds in a Lubbock bank. Prim died at Methodist Hospital on July 24 after the July 7 shooting.
