City officials outline steps to relieve low water pressure as aging mains fail to meet demand. They warn of possible lawn watering restrictions and urge morning irrigation. Park officials endorse direct hose irrigation once every three days with a cloth sack to curb erosion.
Walter Clayton was chosen Saturday as president of the Lubbock safe General Agents and Managers club at a Hilton luncheon. Travis Key was named vice president and Earl Hunt secretary, with Hambright retiring after years of service. U.S. airlines carried over 13 million passengers in 1946, nearly double the 1945 total.
City recreation programs in parks and at the community center featured a weekend hobos party and a tacky party for youths age 14 plus, with organized games and tournaments. A track meet and jumping events are planned for Monday at the community center, with detailed dash and jump events announced by assistant director Haydn Bodenhamer. Nature activities drew 200 children as Gladys Sims led quizzes and storytelling, with multiple prize winners named across senior and junior groups. Pet shows at Burns and Booker T. Washington parks highlighted various categories, including tails, ears, spots, and unusual pets, judged with assistance from Mrs. N. W. McClure. A field day at Mackenzie State park capped the eventful week with racing wins in the wading pool.

The city pool at Mackenzie State Park wraps a four week beginners round, with 525 people taught. A second round starts Monday under A C Hamilton, offering free classes for ages 6 to 8, with sessions for beginners intermediates and life saving, plus a July 4 aquatic show. Registration opens Monday evening and the show is free.
Absentee ballots are available in Lubbock for the Independent School District plan to raise the tax rate from 1 to 1.50 and issue 1.5 million dollars in bonds for new buildings and expansion. Voting occurs July 12 with registration at the county clerk’s office by July 8. Absentee ballots may be cast for more than three days before the election.
