Idalou High School sophomore Roger Sage won the 13th annual Lubbock Soap Box Derby with a 39 second run, besting 140 youngsters as a near-capacity crowd of about 15,000 watched. Sage plans to compete in Akron international finals on Aug 14.

Robbery at Cadenhead Servis Gas Station Spurs Capture
Gun wielding teens robbed Cadenhead Servis Gas Station on Levelland Highway of over 150 dollars. Officers tracked two youths, 19 and 15, to a southwest Lubbock street and arrested them within minutes. A flashlight of change and 92 dollars were found in their car along with a gun. The incident followed prior robberies at the same station.

Tornadoes Kill Two In Colorado
Tornadoes struck isolated areas in northeast Colorado and western Nebraska Monday night, killing two people and injuring two others. A Nebraska farmer died earlier from a lightning bolt. Girl Drowns At Plainview
A seven year old Plainview girl Barbara Kay Adams daughter of Mr and Mrs R D Adams drowned Monday afternoon at the American Legion swimming pool. She was missing about 4:30 p m and found on the pool bottom in ten feet of water almost an hour later. Funeral plans were pending. Survivors include her parents three sisters a brother and three grandparents.
