False Peron assassination plot report sparks government dispute
Argentine Interior Ministry dismissed a report claiming a leftist plot to kill former President Juan Peron on his return from exile as false. Palace sources said the report, said to be from the national intelligence service, was authentic and ordered by President Hector Campora, detailing violence at Peron’s homecoming. Police said two men were arrested near Peron’s home amid chaos that left at least 14 dead and hundreds wounded.
