In Anton Mississippi police used tear gas and helmets to disperse about 2,000 marchers led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. outside a Negro schoolyard. Roughly 100 patrolmen in gas masks confronted the crowd, firing tear gas canisters and using boots during the confrontation.
