Lovington Man Dies In Second Crash On Way To Hospital
Lovington oilfield worker William Jewell Howle 31 died instantly in a high speed second crash near Hobbs as his wife Jean 29 was critically injured. The first crash, 50 minutes earlier, left both Howle and his wife with non life threatening injuries after their car ran off the road when Mrs Howle fell asleep. Howle’s brother J L Howle 27 was driving the second car at near 126 mph and survived with minor injuries as he sped to Hobbs hospital with the injured couple. The Howles had been returning home from Abilene where they visited relatives.

Turbulent weather swept the Panhandle last night with severe thundershowers and heavy winds pummeling Amarillo and reaching the South Plains.
