Authorities report an eight week old panther weighing about five pounds wandering in north Houston. The animal had escaped from its owner, Reggie Parr, prompting officials to urge calm and monitor the sighting.
A five foot crocodile stowed in a Pan American jet’s baggage compartment at Yesilkoy Airport delayed the Beirut Istanbul flight for two hours. Ground crew chased the reptile through the bag area before porters finally captured it and the plane departed. No shipping papers were found and the animal was declared a stowaway with Istanbul’s 700 as its new home.
Former President Lyndon B. Johnson, recovering from a serious heart attack in April, visited Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio for a routine followup. The examination lasted about an hour and a half and officials said he would return periodically for checkups.
Stanford University Medical Center announced its 45th heart transplant operation. A 53 year old man received the new heart Wednesday night and was reported in good condition. The patient's identity was withheld.
