Massive U S raids hit rail links and depots in Vietnam

American pilots reported the heaviest weekend raids on rail lines from Hanoi toward China and key southern depots. Tornadoes Roar Across Midwest and South Plains Weather

Sparse showers dotted the South Plains with brief storms delivering up to .50 inch of moisture. Abernathy reported about half an inch from 6 30 to 8 45 pm with no wind or hail Hale Center saw a nice shower around 7 15 pm. Most residents enjoyed clear to partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. Meanwhile northern Panhandle saw isolated thunderstorm activity as the Midwest faced tornadoes and Missouri River flooding. The Coast Guard closed Missouri River navigation from its mouth to Waverly Missouri to protect levees. One injury occurred from tornadoes in Rapid City South Dakota with two twisters causing property damage. Nebraska floods milled along the Big Blue and Elkhorn Rivers as Grand Island and Beatrice faced rising waters. Flooding strained Kansas Missouri Iowa and Illinois as tens of thousands faced disruption.
