Snyder flood evacuation as Deep Creek rises in record rainfall

Snyder residents in flood prone areas along Deep Creek were ordered to evacuate after more than three inches of rain. A tornado alert accompanied the storm as winds hit 85 mph near Winston Airport. Bridges on 28th 26th and 37th Streets were underwater and some lines down though no injuries reported.

Thief At Bank Seizes $42,000 in Basement Thefts

In Lubbock Texas Commerce Bank a loading cart in the basement vanished with 42000 dollars minutes after opening. Authorities say no arrests or solid leads and describe a suspect as an armored car guard type seen loitering. Carl Sargent says he moved bags to a cart and briefly left, returning to find the money missing.

Police and DPS arrest four in Lubbock raid

A late Friday raid of an East Lubbock residence by Lubbock detectives and Department of Public Safety Narcotics officers resulted in four arrests. Fifty two packets believed to be heroin were seized along with a large quantity of clothing linked to burglaries statewide. The heroin was valued around 1500 dollars. 13 packets were described as particularly large. See RAID Page 15.

Briscoe Signs Bill Creating City Courts in Lubbock

Gov Dolph Briscoe signed House Bill 1686 giving Lubbock county courts at law concurrent civil jurisdiction with the district courts for suits up to 10000 in domestic and civil matters. The courts gain authority over adoptions, disability removals, divorce and annulment cases, property rights, custody and support, alimony pending hearings, and power to issue writs.

Youth Suffocates In Abandoned Refrigerator

Seven year old Noel Gonzales was found dead from suffocation in an abandoned refrigerator in Tahoka Friday night. Justice of the Peace M E Wood ruled accidental death after being called to White Funeral Home where the family had taken the child. Services are pending.

Charges Filed In Cat Death In Lubbock

A 37 year old Lubbock man William Nicholas Rose was charged with unlawfully killing a domestic animal after his 3 year old son was allegedly scratched by a cat owned by Tonya McReynolds. Bond set at 200 dollars. Cat killed with a blood stained board found by police.

Idalou Delinquent Youth Defense Appeals

A 15 year old German boy was ruled delinquent in Idalou by Judge Robert C. Wright and placed in custody of the Texas Youth Council to age 21 unless released earlier. Defense attorney Willis Taylor said he would appeal to the Court of Civil Appeals in Amarillo. The state accused the youth of stabbing Jewel Weston and stealing from her Idalou home on March 15.

City Company Submits Low Airport Bid for Lubbock

PANHANDLE Construction Co. of Lubbock submitted the apparent low bid of 359 949.75 Friday for upgrades to Lubbock Regional Airport water and sewer systems. The project includes utility lines to the new terminal site, upgrading the existing system, and direct airport water from the city plant plus sewer connections to city sewers. The airport board will consider the bids Tuesday with City Council action set for June 28.
