Hail, Deluges Batter Plains in Friday Storms
Severe thunderstorms swept a fifty mile wide south plains area killing one man, flooding roads and causing widespread damage. A Lubbock resident, Archie Copeland, 62, drowned when floodwaters swept his pickup off U S 84 as his wife survived. Rain totals reached up to eight inches in places with 4 5 inches in New Deal and Hale Center. Crops suffered major losses across Crosby Floyd and surrounding counties as lines downed and hail pounded fields.
