The Dow Jones dropped 13.10 to 889.05, its steepest fall since 1963. AP average slid 4.4 as blue chips led losses and volume barely reached 4.6. traders wary while sellers held back. The slide marked the fifth week of decline in a correction toward historic highs.
Treasury bonds edged downward while NYSE volume reached 9.38 million par value with 276 issues: 133 down, 63 up, 80 unchanged. Bond turnover light. only one of 40 issues advanced, others slightly declined or flat.
Domestic cotton futures closed 25 cents a bale higher with activity limited until near the close. December and March gained while other months were inactive. Government reports show Texas and Oklahoma planting proceeding, with Texas seeding at about 87 percent, and cool weather delaying growth in New Mexico and Arizona.
