Bell Creek Oil Field Turns One Year Old In Montana
Sam Gary led a 1967 discovery at Bell Creek in Powder River County that proved Muddy Sands could yield oil in Montana. By May 1968 the field had 310 producing wells, over 200 million barrels of reserves, and $50 million invested in infrastructure with daily output around 50 000 barrels. Major companies expanded leases and a $2.5 million gas plant began construction as towns and facilities grew around the field.
