Cotton losses spark replant shift on South Plains
After storms on the South Plains damaged about 100000 acres of cotton, farmers faced decisions to replant to cotton or switch to soybeans. Hale County reports 164 requests for soybean planting on 7091 acres, with total lost acreage around 10000 in the county by 5 p.m. Local ASCS offices handle release dates and credit for cotton planting, while market outlooks hint at strong demand for short staple cotton next fall.
