A controversial study finds higher early cervical cancer rates among birth control pill users than diaphragm users. Researchers caution no causal link is established and note better health care access among pill users may influence results. Publication delays and journal transfers are noted.
Senator Edward M. Kennedy announced after widespread support that he will remain in office and run for re election in 1970. He said he will serve out his six year term if re elected and abandoned any plans for a 1972 presidential bid following a fatal car crash and a national appeal for guidance. The statement was issued after his Hyannis Port retreat and prior to his attendance at a funeral in Plainfield New Jersey.
He pleads guilty to leaving the scene of an accident in which a young woman, Mary Jo Kopechne, was killed. Kennedy receives a suspended two month jail term and one year probation for the July 18 incident near Chappaquiddick Island off Martha’s Vineyard.

The case links to a July incident near Bib ingsley and the Albata Package Store area. Additional charges include robbery and burglary by force, with names such as Lloyd EdwardDavies and Paul Rodriguez among those charged.
Ten ministers of the Organization of American States unanimously approved a peace plan for Honduras and El Salvador. The resolutions call for immediate withdrawal of Salvadoran troops from Honduran territory and safety guarantees for Salvadorans in Honduras and Hondurans in El Salvador.
