Bush Says Threats Not School Answer
Rep George Bush R Texas said threats of federal lawsuits against many Texas schools will not solve desegregation. He urged a Supreme Court ruling on busing and criticized past education efforts while defending neighborhood schools and opposing busing. Suspect Held on Robbery Charge for Roofer Later Identified
A year old Lubbock roofer Pete Flores Trevino was charged with robbery by firearms after a July 22 hold up of Ed Willhouse. Willhouse, 25, said he picked up a man in the 1000 block of Avenue H who brandished a .38 caliber pistol and stole $10, a stereo tape player and a .22 rifle. Trevino remained in county jail after failing to post a $5,000 bond. Also charged was Charles Baggerly, 37, of Slaton for forging a $10 check drawn on his aunt and uncle, Rev. E.R. Baggerly Jr. and wife.

Police Action Okayed in Jackson State College Violence
A Hinds County grand jury concluded an 11 day probe into violence at Jackson State College and found that officers were justified in opening fire during the campus disruption. The report states one dead youth was likely killed by gunfire from city police weapons and criticizes Mayor Russell Davis for remarks denying police fired. It says the biracial jury found sniper fire directed at officers on the night of May 15 and that officers from the Jackson Police Department and highway patrol were justified in discharging their weapons.
