Stock Market Slows After Mixed News On Friday

New York stocks drifted with light volume as the Dow rose for a 10th straight session, closing up 2.16 at 936.7, while declines edged advances 888 to 826 among 1,757 NYSE issues. Volume fell to 12.91 million shares amid higher interest rates and weaker productivity data, despite government indicators showing some improvement. Warner Communications led volume with heavy trading, while Gulf Oil disclosed a Canadian tender offer news and Royal bought into Italian manufacturing.
