Testimony Focuses on Victim in Lubbock Murder Trial
Witnesses place Billy Gene Williams at the Harris residence near 1914 Auburn Street hours before four gunshots killed Herman Harris. Armstead, Harris’s stepson and Williams’ half brother, described Harris as a man who would kill and testified Williams and Harris argued before the shooting. Police found four bullet holes and a .22 pistol. Williams later surrendered a .25 automatic. The trial, before Judge John McFall, resumes next morning.

Larry Joe Phillips, 38, was given a 30 year prison term by Criminal District Court Judge Frank A. Marullo Jr. for luring Boy Scouts into sex as part of a homosexual ring targeting a defunct local troop. The judge called him the worst kind of human being walking on this earth and noted the maximum sentence was imposed.

Economy Still Growing as GNP Up in Second Quarter
The Commerce Department estimated the nation's economy grew about 7 percent from April to June, matching the first quarter.
