Chicago deploys police dogs to quell racial unrest
Chicago police said they would deploy their new canine corps of German Shepherds to break up racial strife. The five rookie dogs, trained with unruly crowds in mind, were put to use Monday night to disperse roving bands of Negro youths in a predominantly white southwest side neighborhood. The dogs were added to the force last June 27 after training by St Louis experts.

Lubbock businessman Neil H. Wright Jr. dies at 42
Neil H. Wright Jr. 42, longtime Lubbock businessman and chamber of commerce member, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Methodist Hospital after a five month illness. Born in Temple on September 10 1918, he lived in Lubbock his entire life and attended Texas Tech. Funeral services set for Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in City of Lubbock Cemetery. He served on the chamber of commerce board 1954–1960 and as treasurer in 1958, chaired Panhandle South Plains Fair board, and held other civic roles. His affiliations included Petroleum Life Insurance Co Panhandle Fair Association and Rotary. He was a 2nd Degree Mason with Yellow House Lodge in El Paso and a Pi Delta Theta member at Texas Tech. He served in World War II starting in 1941.
