Plains Cotton Co op hit with one year trading ban

Plains Cotton Cooperative Association of Lubbock faces a one year federal ban on trading in futures by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for alleged manipulation in 1972. Vice president Dan W. Davis said Telcot electronic selling system lessens market positions, and the plan affects no direct Telcot operation. The action targets manipulation of spot and May July 1972 futures. the co op denies wrongdoing, settling without admitting or denying. The association represents about 20 000 growers across Texas and Oklahoma, with the order to take effect August 14.

Texas Legislature approves school funds plan in special session

North Korea offers to return captured US soldier and helicopter bodies

North Korea said it would hand over the captive American serviceman and the bodies of three crew members after their helicopter strayed into North Korean airspace. The statement followed a meeting of the Military Armistice Commission and came as Washington weighed its response amid ongoing tensions over US troop withdrawals. The identified survivor is CWO Glenn M. Schwanke, 28, of Spring Green, Wisconsin, with other crew members named by the Pentagon.
