Lubbock County commissioners struggle with inflation and antiquated controls as they seek to stretch a $5.4 million shortfall to cover county needs. They warn some operations and services may have to be cut as 1977 budget studies begin this week with input from county officials.

Texans praised Mondale as a liberal winner while some preferred Ohio Senator John Glenn. Delegates and supporters expressed confidence Carter’s choice would help carry Texas in November.
