Connally Center of West Texas Vice Presidency Speculation
Rumors say Hubert Humphrey may choose Texas Governor John Connally as his running mate to win southern support and dilute Wallace in the South. Connally denies explicit interest but notes it would be hard to refuse, with strong ties to Lyndon Johnson and control of Texas’ 104 delegates. Johnson praises Connally yet concerns remain over his conservative stance and possible perception as a Johnson plant.
