Avon Avalanche Proposes 30 Percent Rate Increase
Avon Avalanche officials tell council a 30 percent local telephone rate rise is needed due to aging switching systems, rising wages, and higher taxes. They project $1.575 million additional annual receipts, with a 6.21 percent return on local operations, based on a $30.5 million fair value. The plan would raise various charges and credits, including temporary move, residence and business service fees, volume control, and color charges. Councilors debate size and pace, considering recovery costs from a 1970 tornado and previous boosts last in 1957.
