Three Lubbock men including Ray B. Carter owner of Carter Drilling Co were badly burned Monday when fumes from an overfilled butane tank ignited by a cutting torch. They were taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment.
Three men suffered second and third degree burns when a butane tank overflowed and flashed while a cutting torch was used to pierce a pipe at a yard near a residence in Lubbock. Two were taken to hospital by private vehicle. Thomas sustained 50 percent burns and faces transfer for further care.

A 26 count grand jury indictment was returned against Juan V Corona in Yuba City California. Corona a 33 year old farm labor contractor is charged with the murders of transient farm workers whose bodies were exhumed along the Feather River and surrounding orchards north of Yuba City.
The AFL CIO Communications Workers of America said a nationwide telephone workers strike is inevitable with no bargaining progress reported. Half the nation’s tel ephone workers could walk out at 5 a m Wednesday, aiming to pressure AT T and regional Bell operate ors as contracts expire across July and August.
Lubbock workers at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co and Western Electric Co plan a nationwide walkout led by the Communications Workers of America. About 350 SWB employees in Lubbock join CWA with a three year contract set to expire at midnight Friday, while Western Electric workers begin striking at 5 am Wednesday.
