A major blaze in Clarksville Arkansas burned for nearly three hours consuming four downtown business buildings. Fire officials estimate damage around five hundred thousand dollars and note walls of two buildings collapsed into the main street. The cause was under investigation.
Preston Smith a soft spoken Lubbock man was chosen as president pro tempore of the Texas Senate in a secret caucus among seven candidates.
