Rain showers sweep South Plains with spotty intensity
Sporadic thundershowers moved eastward across the South Plains Monday night. A 20 minute downpour near the city produced about 0.47 inch, with heaviest rain at 9:25 to 9:45 p.m. Areas outside the city saw lighter showers and minor totals. In Amarillo seven year old Donna Faye Smith died when struck by a cement truck while riding a bicycle in the east part of town.

Two women from Lubbock and Hereford died in a one car crash near Hereford on Monday at about 6 30 p m. Mrs. Hugh Musick formerly of Lubbock and her sister Mrs. Tony Bartos of Hereford were killed. One Musick son remained in critical condition. another son 12 was listed as fair. The front tire blew and the car hit a heavy tree on Hwy 385 about 13 miles north of Dimmitt. The driver, Musick’s husband, Adjuration Officer of the Lubbock Veterans Administration, was en route to Manila. Funeral services pending.
