Wasteful irrigation sparks call to save Hale County water
Hale County agent Ollie Liner urges farmers to curb irrigation waste calling it pathetic as tailwater runs stretch along Plainview highways. He cites heavy rains and soils that stay wet beneath dry tops, and notes an acre foot of properly applied water for cotton is worth about 7 dollars. He advises rough soil surface, small tubing, and channeling tailwater to pits to reduce loss and reuse water.
