The City Planning and Zoning Commission approved extending Briercroft shopping center by about five acres southwest of 50th St and Ave T. They refused to lower commercial zoning on six adjacent lots. Haiphong Fuel Depot Hit by U S Carrier Jets
U S Navy jets from the USS Hancock bombed Haiphong two miles northwest of the city center hitting oil storage tanks and the port’s two pumping stations used to unload tankers. The strike damaged 70 percent of facilities with 20 percent surviving the prior June 29 attack. One U S plane was shot down but the pilot was rescued.

Wrong Type Spray Sparks Mass Evacuation in Argyle
About 400 residents of Argyle Minnesota were moved from the town after a pilot sprayed a chemical believed to be mosquito control agent. Officials said the second fill used Parathion mislabeled as Malathion and warned parathion could be fatal in sufficient exposure though the sprayed dose was deemed weak. No illnesses were reported though some residents had mouth sores and authorities urged caution.

Mosquito Threat Diminished by Weather in Lubbock
Weather over the past two weeks reduced expected mosquito influx into Lubbock officials said. Despite concentrations in Shallow Water Wolfforth and parts of Lubbock six mist spray rigs worked up to 18 hours daily to curb population. Teen-Age flyers rebuild WWII Piper Cub for cross-country trip

An 84 foot parabolic radar at the Clear Missile Early Warning site began operating to detect ballistic threats from Eurasia. Weighing 185 tons, it can detect a 11 inch wire at 2500 miles, one of five in service with sites at Thule Greenland and Yorkshire England.
