City Officials Defend No Alert On Tornado
City officials called the late Monday decision not to sound an alert a judgment call as violent storms battered the area. A tornado was sighted about seven miles north by two National Weather Service forecasters at Lubbock Regional Airport, touching ground near 4 a.m. Radar indicated the twister as part of a storm cell that produced heavy rain, high winds, hail and scattered damage across the Plainview region. A tornado warning was issued for the City of Lubbock and Lubbock County.

Third Day Shells Hit Hue Amid B52 Attacks
North Vietnamese artillery hit Hue for the third straight day with four 122mm shells striking the citadel at about 7 a.m. One person was killed and several wounded. U S B52 bombers conducted 15 missions overnight supporting the Quang Tri drive and targeting resupply and troop concentrations in the A Shau Valley west of Hue. A third B52 mission struck targets 62 miles northwest of Dong Hoi. Other strikes hit northwest of Kontum and around An Loc. Nearly 200 enemy troops were reported slain south of Quang Tri City and west of Hue. The Quang Tri counteroffensive also recaptured three 105mm guns. Gunman robs Lub neck service station youth at gunpoint
A 17 year old son of a Lub neck service station operator was forced to empty the cash register at Family Park Enco on H02 Ave 11 about 9 30 pm Monday. A mustachioed Negro man waited inside before the rush of customers. The robber fled after another customer arrived and the youth cried for help. The owner estimates the loot under 100 dollars. Police were alerted as the teen approached a customer outside.
