Texas leads nation in Fourth of July holiday deaths

At midweek the Texas tally topped U.S. figures with 57 deaths from traffic crashes and other violence during the Independence Day weekend. Drownings, boating accidents, and miscellaneous violence added to the toll as California neared Texas in drownings and the National Safety Council projected 700 to 800 traffic fatalities for the four day period.

Three-Car Crash Kills Texas Woman Near Altus Oklahoma

A Texas woman died and her husband was badly injured in a three car crash about two miles west of Altus on U S 62. A tire blew out on Henry Clay Snyder’s car causing loss of control and impact with another vehicle and a bridge abutment before striking a fourth car. Mrs Snyder 61 was killed and Snyder 67 was injured and taken to Altus hospital. He is an employee at the Weather Bureau in Lubbock Texas. Relatives were en route to Altus Sunday night.
