Seymour Texas in August 1936 saw the thermometer reach 120 degrees the hottest day in state history. Foster Bunkley and Loyd Jones recall escaping the heat in a car with two young daughters as towns cooled with wet cloths and fans. The heat wave stretched nationwide with at least 120 deaths attributed to the heat and Lubbock reported 107 degrees on August 12 1926 just shy of the all time 108 set that year.

Four Die In Head On Crash Near Littlefield
A head on collision 1.7 miles north of Littlefield on U.S. 385 killed four people and injured one other during the July Fourth weekend.
